Members

15-20 members is a workable number for a Toastmasters club as that gives each member a job at every meeting. Here are some of the current members:

Luke Vitali

Luke doesn’t lack the confidence to talk in front of people – in fact he is a tour guide at Paronella Park but he still wants to improve his skills and has found that Toastmasters does just that.

Peter Cochrane

Is a director at the Cassowary Coast Regional Council. In his position he regularly needs to present – clearly and concisely – reports and propositions. He also needs to deal with staff issues and he finds that the Toastmasters training program facilitates all that.

Yana Hanson

Yana has lived in Ukraine and in Sibiria and has many stories to tell. Her English is good but she still feels like she needs to practice and has found that Toastmasters is a place to do just that.

Ellen Sorbello

IMGP2662

Ellen attended a Speechcraft course in the 70s. She joined Townsville Toastmasters in 2006 and then transferred her membership back to the Innisfail Club later that year.

Sue Treston

After performing miserably in front of lecturers and fellow students whilst doing a group presentation at university: I realised that I would have to become better at public speaking or die (of embarrassment).

To my way of thinking, the only practical way to get experience and guidance was to join a group like Toastmasters, as I certainly wasn’t going to improve and gain any skills using my previous well used method of avoiding the issue. I quite successfully avoided facing up to actually going to a meeting and it wasn’t until the 11th hour with impending group work and presentations looming, that I made myself pick up the phone and commit to going to a meeting.

The friendly, supportive encouragement, education and interaction with both experienced members and others like myself, has helped improve my speaking skills and ability to cope with nerves after just a few meetings; and that just would NOT have happened without Toastmasters.

Emily Tierney

Emily says she is petrified speaking in public but is still required to do so at her church at times. At Toastmasters meetings she has had opportunities to practice and is getting much more confident.

Sheridan Lindée

When I joined I could not speak publicly because of my fear, however speaking in Toastmasters has encouraged me endlessly.

Michael Burgess

Michael moved to Innisfail from Tasmania and and found Toastmasters to be a place to meet people and make friends.

Connie Riera

IMGP2650
Connie has been a member of the club for more than 35 years.

She was one of first three women who joined when women in clubs were frowned upon.

Many members have been the recipient of Connie’s encouraging evaluations and guidance.
